About doublet opal. A doublet is a slice of natural opal bonded to a dark backing. The dark base sits behind the colour bar the way it does in a black opal, so the play-of-colour shows at its strongest, at a fraction of the price of a solid black opal. The opal you see is real Australian opal, and no two are ever the same.
